Few resort complexes in American golf carry the weight of history that Pinehurst does, and Course No. 6 occupies an interesting position within that storied village — somewhat off the beaten path compared to the famous No. 2, yet fully deserving of a golfer's attention in its own right. Designed by George and Tom Fazio and opened in 1979, it was built through a more heavily wooded section of the Sandhills property, giving it a character distinct from the open, heathland-influenced layouts that define Pinehurst's earlier courses.
Where No. 2 unfolds across exposed, rolling terrain, No. 6 plays through corridors of longleaf pine, with elevation changes that are more pronounced than many visitors expect from this part of North Carolina. The natural contours of the land give it a demanding, tournament-ready feel without the constant pressure of playing a living monument.
Pinehurst Village itself remains one of American golf's great destinations — a purpose-built golf community in the Sandhills where the sport has been central to daily life since the 1890s. No. 6 rewards the visitor who stays long enough to explore beyond the obvious.
