Guernsey County sits in the rolling hill country of southeastern Ohio, a landscape carved by glaciers and creek valleys that gives the region a distinctly different character from the flat farmland most people picture when they think of Ohio. Byesville is a small working town just south of Cambridge — the county seat — and this part of the state has a long, quiet tradition of private golf clubs serving tight-knit communities that take their local institutions seriously.
