Keosauqua sits in the far southeast corner of Iowa, deep in Van Buren County, where the Des Moines River carves wide bends through some of the most quietly scenic terrain in the state. This is a part of Iowa that most people pass through only by accident — bluff country, river bottomland, and small towns that still feel genuinely unhurried. A golf course here is less a destination resort and more a local institution, the kind of place where members know each other's swings and visitors are welcomed as curiosities rather than customers.
River View Golf Course, as the name announces plainly, plays along or near the Des Moines River, which means the landscape does real work shaping the routing. River corridors in this region bring mature trees, natural grade changes, and the occasional moisture-driven challenge that flat Iowa farmland rarely offers. Conditions and playability can shift meaningfully with the seasons, and the river itself is never entirely out of mind.
Van Buren County markets itself as a place of covered bridges and Amish communities — rural Iowa at its least commercialized. Golf here fits that spirit: straightforward, honest, and unlikely to impress anyone chasing prestige, but entirely capable of delivering a genuinely enjoyable round in surroundings that most courses simply cannot replicate.
