La Dehesa is one of the most respected private clubs in the Madrid golf corridor, occupying a rolling estate in the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama about 25 kilometres northwest of the capital. The course takes its name from the classic Spanish dehesa landscape — open woodland grazed beneath ancient holm oaks — and that character defines the entire experience. Mature trees frame almost every hole, giving the layout a parkland intimacy that contrasts sharply with the exposed heathland courses found elsewhere on the meseta.
Villanueva de la Cañada sits at the heart of a prosperous commuter belt that has produced several of Madrid's most serious members' clubs, and La Dehesa ranks among the finest of them. The design rewards thoughtful shot-making over raw power; the oak corridors demand accuracy off the tee, and the greens have a reputation for subtle, tricky breaks that punish those who ignore the local knowledge carried by regular members.
For visitors lucky enough to secure a tee time — access is restricted given its private status — La Dehesa offers a genuine window into how Madrid's golfing community plays the game: unhurried, sociable, and conducted against a backdrop that feels unmistakably Castilian.
