Few golf destinations on the Indian Ocean can match the setting Anahita delivers. Designed by Ernie Els and opened in 2008, this resort course occupies a privileged stretch of Mauritius's east coast, where the lagoon waters shift between jade and cobalt and the trade winds off the Indian Ocean shape every approach shot in ways no yardage book can fully warn you about. Els brought his signature philosophy here — broad, flowing fairways that invite an aggressive game off the tee, but greens and surrounds that punish imprecision and reward course management.
The course winds through the Anahita resort estate, framed by volcanic rock, water features, and native vegetation, with the lagoon making dramatic appearances on the back nine in particular. The par-3 over open water toward the coast is among the most photographed holes in the entire region, and justifiably so.
Flacq itself sits on Mauritius's quieter, less touristed eastern shore — sugarcane country that gives way to reef-protected coastline. The combination of tropical beauty and genuine strategic challenge makes Anahita a serious golf experience, not merely a scenic one.
