Trinidad sits at the southern edge of Colorado's Front Range, where the Sangre de Cristo Mountains rise to the west and the high plains open to the east. It's a crossroads town with a long and layered history — a stop on the Santa Fe Trail, a coal-mining hub, and now a quiet community that punches well above its size in character. Golf here means playing in that high-altitude, semi-arid landscape, where the air is thin, the sky runs wide, and the light has a quality you don't find at lower elevations.
Trinidad Golf Course is a private, members-only club serving a relatively small community, which tends to give these kinds of courses their personality — regulars who know every bounce, every prevailing wind, every unwritten rule. That intimacy is a feature, not a limitation.
Las Animas County doesn't have a deep bench of golf facilities, so this course carries real meaning for its members. It's the local game, played against a backdrop that most visiting golfers would stop and photograph before they ever pulled a club.
