Yucca Valley sits at the edge of the Mojave Desert, just outside Joshua Tree National Park, where the high desert landscape is defined by those iconic, otherworldly trees, granite boulders, and an elevation that keeps things cooler than the valley floor resorts of Palm Springs. Golf out here has a different character than the manicured resort corridor to the west — it's rawer, more exposed to the elements, and surrounded by some of the most visually striking terrain in Southern California.
Hawk's Landing Golf Club plays through this high desert setting, where the natural environment does much of the work in defining the experience. A par 71 layout signals some asymmetry — likely a pair of par 5s on one nine and the routing adjusted to fit the land rather than a textbook template — which often produces a course with genuine personality rather than a formulaic feel.
For golfers who make the short drive up from the Coachella Valley, Hawk's Landing offers something the resort belt doesn't: quiet, space, and the sensation of playing golf at the edge of the wilderness.
