Few public courses in the Pacific Northwest sit on more historically charged ground. Columbia Point occupies a stretch of land along the Columbia River in Richland, one of the 3 cities that make up the Tri-Cities area in southeastern Washington — a region defined by the convergence of the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima rivers, and by its central role in the Manhattan Project. The Hanford Site, which produced plutonium for the first nuclear weapons, sits just upriver, and that Cold War past still shapes Richland's identity in ways you feel even on a golf course.
The setting delivers what the history promises: wide, semi-arid high desert terrain under enormous Pacific Northwest skies, with views of the Columbia and the basalt bluffs that frame the river corridor. The landscape is spare and open, more sagebrush steppe than tree-lined parkland, which means wind off the river is a constant factor and a genuine part of the challenge.
As a public facility serving the Tri-Cities community, Columbia Point offers everyday, accessible golf without the formality of a private club — the kind of course where locals play regularly and visitors get an honest read on what golf in this corner of Washington actually looks and feels like.
