Few public courses in southern Indiana have built the kind of regional reputation that Sultan's Run has earned since opening in 1997. Designed by Tim Liddy, the layout carves through the rolling, wooded hills of Dubois County in a way that feels more dramatic than most Midwest courses have any right to be — elevation changes, hardwood-lined corridors, and a creek system that winds through the property keep the routing visually striking and strategically honest from start to finish.
Jasper itself is a quietly proud small city, known for its German heritage and its furniture manufacturing roots, sitting in a part of Indiana where the landscape finally starts to get some character as it rolls toward the Ohio River hills. Golf in this corner of the state punches above its weight, and Sultan's Run is largely the reason why. It regularly draws players from well outside the county who wouldn't otherwise have much reason to make the trip.
The course plays as a genuine test rather than a resort softener, rewarding shot-shaping and course management over raw power. It has developed a loyal local following while remaining accessible and well-maintained — the kind of public facility that raises the bar for everything around it.
