Few university golf courses carry the pedigree of Cornell's layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. — one of the most prolific and influential architects in the history of American golf. Jones, who was himself a Cornell alumnus (studying what he essentially invented as a discipline: golf course architecture), created this course as a deeply personal project. That biographical connection gives the course a resonance that most campus layouts simply don't have. It has served Cornell's varsity golf program for decades and remains a legitimate test of the game, not just an amenity.
