Royal Jersey

Few clubs in the British Isles carry a name with more weight than Royal Jersey. Founded in 1878, it stands among the oldest golf clubs in the world and claims a distinction no other course can match: it is the birthplace of Harry Vardon, the 6-time Open Champion whose grip technique reshaped how the game is played. A small memorial near the 5th hole marks the spot where his childhood cottage once stood, and his presence still haunts the place in the best possible way.

The course occupies the wide, flat expanse of Grouville Marsh on Jersey's east coast, hard against the sea wall, with views across the Royal Bay of Grouville toward the French coast on a clear day. Links turf, salt air, and the unpredictable winds that roll in off the English Channel define the experience here — conditions that reward creative, low-ball shot-making over raw distance.

Royal Jersey has hosted multiple Amateur Championships and remains one of the most historically significant clubs in the game, yet it retains the unhurried, genuinely welcoming character of an island community that has always been proud of its golfing heritage.
