Few Front Range layouts announce themselves quite like Colorado National. Designed by Henry Tschamler and opened in 2000, the course sits on the open plains just east of the Rocky Mountain foothills, where the land rolls with surprising drama and the views of the Continental Divide stretch uninterrupted across the horizon. That backdrop alone sets it apart from the crowded Denver-metro market, but the design earns its keep independently of the scenery.
Erie occupies a sweet spot between Boulder and Fort Collins — suburban enough to be accessible, open enough that the wind behaves like an extra hazard. Colorado National leans into that exposure rather than hiding from it, and players who underestimate the Front Range breeze tend to find trouble in a hurry. The course plays to a legitimate challenge without tipping into punishment, rewarding shot-shapers who work the ball both ways.
The surrounding community has grown considerably since the course opened, but Colorado National has held its identity as one of the more distinctive public-access options along this stretch of the Rockies' eastern edge.
