The Hautes-Alpes department sits in the southern French Alps, a landscape defined by dramatic elevation, thin air, and the kind of mountain light that makes colors look almost too vivid to be real. Vars itself is best known as a ski resort — part of the Forêt Blanche ski area linking it to Risoul — so golf here exists in the seasonal counterpoint that alpine villages increasingly offer to keep visitors coming through summer and autumn.
A practice facility rather than a full course, this kind of installation serves a particular purpose in a mountain resort context: keeping the swing sharp between ski seasons, or giving vacationing golfers somewhere to work on their game when the nearest full-length course is a winding mountain drive away. Expect a driving range and likely short-game areas sized to the available terrain, framed by the kind of alpine scenery that makes even a bucket of range balls feel like time well spent.
For serious competitive golf, the broader Hautes-Alpes region offers full courses around Gap, roughly an hour's drive down into the valley.
