Indian Wells Country Club is one of the Coachella Valley's classic private retreats, a members-only club that has anchored the desert golf community since the mid-20th century. The course shares its name with the city it helped put on the map — Indian Wells incorporated in 1967 partly around the identity of its golf and resort culture, and the club remains central to that legacy. The surrounding Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains frame nearly every shot, giving rounds here a grandeur that photographs struggle to capture.
Desert golf in the Coachella Valley plays differently than almost anywhere else in the country. The low humidity and consistent sunshine mean firm, fast conditions for much of the year, and the region's notorious afternoon winds off the mountains can transform a benign par 4 into something considerably more demanding. Winter and early spring bring the valley's peak season, when the weather is ideal and the desert floor is at its most vivid.
As a private club, Indian Wells offers its members a quieter, less commercial alternative to the resort corridors along Highway 111. The grounds carry the unhurried character of a place built for regulars who know every slope and prevailing breeze — the kind of course that rewards familiarity.
