Few clubs in the world can claim a history as ancient as Bruntsfield Links. The club traces its origins to 1761, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in existence, and it takes its name from the historic short-hole course on Edinburgh's Bruntsfield Links common ground where members played for generations before relocating to its current Barnton home in the early 20th century. That lineage places it in rarefied company alongside Muirfield, the Honourable Company, and St Andrews as a pillar of the game's Scottish birthplace.
The course at Davidson's Mains occupies a wooded, parkland setting that feels a world removed from the city bustle despite sitting well within Edinburgh's boundaries. Mature trees frame many of the fairways, and the layout rewards careful course management and precise iron play over raw power.
Edinburgh remains one of the world's great golf cities, sitting within easy reach of the Firth of Forth links, and Bruntsfield sits comfortably at its private-members heart — steeped in history, quietly proud, and very much worth seeking out.
