The club traces its origins to 1761, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in existence, and it takes its name from the historic short-hole course on Edinburgh's Bruntsfield Links common ground where members played for generations before relocating to its current Barnton home in the early 20th century. That lineage places it in rarefied company alongside Muirfield, the Honourable Company, and St Andrews as a pillar of the game's Scottish birthplace.
