Mackenzie Golf and Country Club sits at the edge of one of British Columbia's more remote resource towns, a pulp-and-lumber community carved out of the northern boreal forest in the 1960s. That origin story matters here — this is a course built by and for working people, a community anchor in a place where the nearest city is a long drive south on Highway 97. Golf in Mackenzie has always been something residents do for each other, and that spirit tends to show up in the atmosphere you find on the course.
The surrounding landscape is unmistakably northern BC: spruce and pine pressing in at the edges, Williston Lake not far off — the largest reservoir in British Columbia — and a climate that delivers a short but surprisingly vivid golf season. Long summer daylight hours are one of the genuine rewards of playing this far north.
At par 70, the layout leans shorter than a traditional parkland test, which likely reflects both the terrain and the community-course ethos — playable and enjoyable for the members who keep this place alive.
