Few courses in England place you quite so squarely on the edge of a national park. Yelverton Golf Club sits on the southern fringe of Dartmoor in Devon, where the moorland presses right up against the fairways and the landscape carries that particular mix of open sky, granite outcrops, and rough heathland that defines this corner of the southwest. The village of Yelverton itself sits at elevation, and the course reflects that — expect moorland turf, firm ground, and weather that can shift without much warning.
Playing here feels less like a manicured parkland round and more like a genuine encounter with the terrain. Moorland courses of this type tend to reward straight hitting over distance, with heather and rough ground punishing anything wayward far more severely than a conventional rough line would.
Devon's golf scene is quietly strong, stretching from the links at Saunton and Westward Ho! on the north coast to heathland and parkland tracks inland. Yelverton occupies its own distinct niche in that landscape — a moorland layout where the setting does as much work as the design.
