George is one of South Africa's most storied golf towns, sitting in the Garden Route between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean. The region's mild, year-round climate and lush landscape have made it a genuine golf destination — the town hosts more courses per capita than almost anywhere else in the country, and Kingswood is among its most celebrated.
Kingswood Golf Club opened in 1994 and was designed by Gary Player, whose fingerprints are unmistakable: bold bunkering, demanding approach angles, and greens that reward precision over power. The course occupies rolling terrain on the eastern edge of George, with the Outeniqua Mountains providing a constant, dramatic backdrop. Several holes route through indigenous fynbos and mature trees, giving the layout a natural character that feels earned rather than manicured. The par-3 holes are a particular strength, routinely testing mid-irons to well-protected targets.
Kingswood carries a strong reputation on the South African golf circuit and has hosted significant Sunshine Tour events. It attracts both serious club golfers and visiting players working their way along the Garden Route — a stretch of coastline that, hole for hole, represents some of the most enjoyable golf on the African continent.
