Few courses in Scotland carry their surroundings quite so literally in their name. Duff House Royal sits in the grounds of Duff House, a grand William Adam baroque mansion completed in 1740 that now serves as a country house gallery in the care of Historic Environment Scotland. The course was laid out in the early 20th century and granted its "Royal" designation in 1923 — a distinction that speaks to the club's standing in the northeast Scottish golf tradition. Playing here means moving through a landscape shaped by centuries of aristocratic ambition, with the mansion periodically coming into view as a reminder of where you are.
Banff itself sits on the Moray Firth coast, where Aberdeenshire meets the sea. The town is small and historic, and the surrounding golf scene — with Macduff, Cullen, and Royal Tarlair nearby — reflects a region that has always taken the game seriously without making a spectacle of it.
