The Kanawaki Golf Club

Few golf clubs in Canada carry the layered significance of Kanawaki. Founded in 1904 and designed by Willie Park Jr. — the Scottish Open champion and one of the most influential golf architects of the early 20th century — the club has operated for well over a century on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, just across from Montreal. Its name and setting reflect its location within Kahnawake, the Mohawk community whose land borders the river, giving Kanawaki a cultural backdrop unlike virtually any other private club in the country.

Park's routing works across gently rolling terrain, and the course has aged into a classical parkland experience: mature trees framing tight corridors, firm and fast conditions when maintained well, and a design philosophy that rewards strategic shotmaking over raw power.
