Port Townsend sits at the northeastern tip of the Olympic Peninsula, where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets Puget Sound — one of the more dramatic addresses in Pacific Northwest golf. Discovery Bay Golf Club takes its name from the sweeping bay that Captain George Vancouver charted in 1792, and the course occupies terrain shaped by that same glacially carved landscape: fir-forested ridgelines, open meadow corridors, and the kind of moody, low-light skies that make the Pacific Northwest feel like nowhere else on earth.
The region's climate means year-round play is genuinely viable here — the Olympic Peninsula's eastern rain shadow keeps Discovery Bay measurably drier than the mountains looming to the west. Expect firm, links-influenced turf conditions in summer and the lush, receptive fairways that come with the wetter months.
Port Townsend itself is an unusually charming base for golf travel — a Victorian seaport town with a strong arts community, ferry access, and the kind of unhurried character that makes a round feel like an actual escape rather than just a tee time.
