Savannah's low country holds golf the way it holds everything else — slowly, with atmosphere to spare. Southbridge Savannah Golf Club sits in one of America's most storied cities, where Spanish moss drapes live oaks, the land flattens toward tidal marshes, and the air carries a humidity that makes every round feel earned. That setting alone gives any course here a character that courses in drier, harder-edged parts of the country simply cannot replicate.
Southbridge is a club-style layout on the west side of Savannah, designed by Rees Jones and opened in the late 1980s. Jones shaped the course through the region's characteristic terrain — water, marsh edges, and tall pines — producing a design that rewards accuracy over power and punishes wandering shots with the kind of natural hazards the Georgia coast specializes in. It has long been regarded as one of the stronger everyday-access courses in the Savannah market.
For visiting golfers, the club offers a legitimate taste of coastal Georgia golf without requiring a trip to Sea Island or Hilton Head — genuine low country conditions, a mature layout, and a city worth exploring well beyond the 18th green.
