Nittany Country Club takes its name from the same ridge that defines this corner of central Pennsylvania — Nittany Mountain, the long sandstone spine that Penn State fans know as a backdrop and locals know as a landmark. Mingoville sits in Bald Eagle Valley, a quiet agricultural corridor in Centre County where the terrain rolls and folds in ways that tend to reward course designers willing to work with the land rather than against it.
As a private members' club, Nittany operates at the pace and intimacy that come with a roster of familiar faces and a course maintained for the people who play it week in and week out. That kind of ownership breeds personality — the idiosyncratic local knowledge, the unwritten rules, the holes that have names even if the scorecard doesn't list them.
Centre County's golf scene orbits heavily around State College and Penn State, which gives the broader area a lively, educated golf culture. Nittany Country Club offers members something the busier venues in town can't: a quieter, more personal game just up the valley.
