Drenthe is one of the Netherlands' quieter provinces — a landscape of heath, ancient peat bogs, and pine forest that sits well apart from the crowded Randstad. The region moves at its own pace, and golf here tends to reflect that: smaller clubs embedded in the natural terrain, where the setting does much of the work that architecture might elsewhere.
Country Golf Ees occupies this kind of landscape near the village of Ees, a hamlet in the eastern part of the province not far from the German border. The heathland and wooded terrain of this corner of Drenthe is well suited to golf — firm, sandy soils, natural contours, and mature tree lines that give holes definition without feeling manufactured. Conditions tend to play firm and fast through the summer, while the relative isolation keeps the course quiet on most days.
As a smaller, local club in a rural setting, it offers the kind of unhurried round that has largely disappeared from more urbanized parts of the Netherlands — straightforward golf in a genuinely peaceful piece of Dutch countryside.
