Few private clubs on Philadelphia's Main Line carry as much quiet prestige as Overbrook Golf Club. Founded in 1900, it ranks among the oldest clubs in the region, and its membership has long reflected the old-money character of Bryn Mawr itself — a town whose name is Welsh for "great hill," a fitting description of the terrain on which this course unfolds. A.W. Tillinghast, the great Philadelphia-born architect responsible for Winged Foot, Baltusrol, and San Francisco Golf Club, redesigned Overbrook in the early 20th century, leaving his unmistakable stamp of strategic bunkering and demanding green complexes on the property.
The routing makes full use of the rolling, wooded hillside that defines this stretch of the Main Line, with significant elevation change creating memorable sightlines and genuinely uneven lies throughout the round. A par of 70 signals a course that rewards precision and course management over raw power.
Overbrook sits roughly 10 miles west of Center City Philadelphia, in a corridor of established private clubs that makes the Main Line one of the more golf-rich suburban stretches in the Mid-Atlantic.
