Designed by Seve Ballesteros and opened in 1992, Golf de Pont-Royal occupies a plateau in the Luberon foothills where the landscape does most of the dramatic work. Olive groves, wild herbs, and garrigue scrub frame nearly every hole, and the course sits within the Pont-Royal estate — a luxury property development that blends Provençal architecture with the kind of golf-resort ambition that was very much in fashion across southern Europe in the early 1990s. Ballesteros brought a distinctly strategic sensibility to the routing, favouring risk-reward decisions over brute length, with fairways that reward placement and greens that punish casual approaches.

Mallemort sits between Salon-de-Provence and the Luberon Natural Regional Park, which means the light, the air, and the backdrop carry that particular quality that has drawn painters and writers to Provence for centuries.
