Few Scottish villages announce themselves quite like Boat of Garten — osprey country, the steam-hauled Strathspey Railway, and a golf course that has been part of the community since 1898. The club sits within the Cairngorms National Park, where the fairways run through Caledonian pine forest and heather lines every errant path. The bunkering and natural rough carry the kind of understated severity common to the best Highland courses.
