Franklin sits in Pendleton County, one of West Virginia's most remote and dramatic corners — a high Allegheny valley ringed by Spruce Knob, the highest point in the state, and the rolling farmland of the South Branch Potomac River watershed. At elevations that climb well above most of the mid-Atlantic, the air runs cool even in summer, and the mountain scenery is genuinely arresting. The Highlands at Fisher Mountain takes its name and its character from this terrain, a course shaped by the ridges and hollows that define this part of Appalachia.
