Few golf courses in California can claim a setting quite like this one — a working winery estate in the Livermore Valley, where the fairways roll through active vineyards and the smell of oak and earth is as much a part of the round as the wind off the coastal range. Greg Norman designed the layout, and his signature is easy to read: generous landing areas that tighten as you approach the green, bold contouring, and a routing that uses the natural topography of the valley rather than fighting it.
The Livermore Valley sits about 35 miles east of San Francisco, sheltered enough for warm afternoons but subject to the afternoon winds that funnel through the hills — a factor that quietly reshapes club selection throughout the back nine. The vines themselves come into play on several holes, and the harvest-season rounds carry a particular atmosphere you won't find anywhere else in the Bay Area.
This is a resort and event destination rather than a private enclave, so the experience leans toward the celebratory — a place where the 19th hole means something, with the estate's own wines poured at the clubhouse after the round.
