Glenmarie Golf and Country Club stands as one of the Klang Valley's most established private clubs, operating twin 18-hole layouts — the Garden Course and the Valley Course — both designed by Ronald Fream of Golfplan and opened in the early 1990s. The club built its reputation quickly, and the Valley Course in particular became a fixture on the Asian Tour calendar, hosting the Volvo Masters of Asia and drawing an international field to the suburbs west of Kuala Lumpur. Fream shaped both courses to work with the gently undulating terrain of Shah Alam, weaving play through a mix of mature tropical trees, water features, and carefully contoured fairways that reward strategic thinking over raw power.
Shah Alam sits within Selangor, Malaysia's most industrialized state, but Glenmarie carves out a surprisingly green and composed environment within that urban sprawl — the kind of place where the heat and humidity feel earned rather than punishing once you're walking tree-lined corridors at golden hour.
As a private members' club, Glenmarie offers a level of course conditioning and club culture that reflects its corporate and expatriate membership base, with well-maintained facilities and a service standard that has kept it relevant through decades of competition from newer Klang Valley developments.
