Forest Grove sits in Washington County's Tualatin Valley, roughly 25 miles west of Portland where the Coast Range foothills begin to assert themselves and the farmland gives way to Douglas fir and Oregon white oak. It's quiet, green golf country — reliably overcast through the winter months, lush into early summer, and sheltered enough from the Willamette Valley winds to play in reasonable comfort most of the year.
Sunset Grove Golf Club is a private members' club, which in this corner of Oregon tends to mean something specific: a close-knit community built around the game rather than a resort showcase. Without the pressure to attract daily-fee visitors, private clubs in this region often develop a particular personality — courses maintained for members who know every bounce and break, where the social fabric is as much a part of the membership as the golf itself.
Without more detailed records on hand, the full design history and signature holes of Sunset Grove aren't something to speculate about here. What's clear is that it occupies genuinely appealing terrain, in a region where the Pacific Northwest's best instincts — towering conifers, soft turf, moody skies — make even an ordinary round feel earned.
