Salas is a small inland municipality in western Asturias, a region of northern Spain where the landscape is defined by deep green valleys, chestnut forests, and the kind of persistent Atlantic moisture that keeps everything lush and rolling. Golf in Asturias has always existed in the shadow of the coast — courses like Real Club de Golf de Castiello and La Llorea draw most of the attention — but the inland routes reward those willing to venture further.
El Viso sits in terrain that reflects Asturias at its most rural and unhurried. The topography here tends to be genuinely hilly rather than gently undulating, and a course carved through this landscape will reward shot-making and course management over raw distance. Conditions tend to stay green and soft for much of the year, a function of the Cantabrian climate that makes the turf receptive but can also put a premium on keeping approach shots on the correct tier.
For visitors, the appeal is the atmosphere as much as the golf itself — a regional club rooted in its community, playing through countryside that feels genuinely remote from the tourist circuits of coastal Asturias.
