Beulah sits at the heart of Benzie County, one of Michigan's most quietly beautiful corners — a landscape of inland lakes, cherry orchards, and the kind of rolling, wooded terrain that lends itself naturally to golf. Crystal Lake, one of the clearest in the state, is just a short drive away, and the surrounding hills give the area a topography that keeps golf courses here from ever feeling flat or forgettable.
Champion Hill occupies that hilly, tree-lined character well. An 18-hole, par-72 layout in this part of northwest Lower Michigan is going to contend with genuine elevation change, mature hardwoods, and the kind of tight, wooded corridors that demand accuracy off the tee as much as distance. Summer rounds here come with long evening light, cool lake breezes drifting in from Lake Michigan not far to the west, and the unhurried pace that defines golf in rural northern Michigan.
Benzie County doesn't get the same marquee attention as Traverse City or the Leelanau Peninsula, but that's part of its appeal — genuine small-town golf, played in surroundings that feel more like a reward than a backdrop.
