Designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1992, the course was built on rolling Piedmont terrain in Fairfax County and quickly earned a reputation as one of the stronger private members' clubs in the Washington metro region. Jones — known for his work preparing major championship venues, earning him the nickname "The Open Doctor" — brought that same exacting sensibility to this layout, routing holes through mature hardwoods and natural contours that give the property a more secluded feel than its suburban address might suggest.
The course plays to a par 72 and rewards strategic thinking over raw power. Jones's designs typically feature generous landing areas off the tee that tighten considerably as you approach well-guarded greens, and Chantilly National follows that blueprint, putting a premium on iron play and course management.
