Few golf settings in Scandinavia are quite as raw and elemental as this one. Herdla Golf Club occupies the northern tip of Herdøy island, just west of Bergen on the Norwegian coast, where the land barely rises above sea level and the North Sea and the Boknafjord press in from nearly every direction. The course plays across open, wind-scoured terrain that would feel at home on the Scottish links — exposed, honest, and utterly dependent on what the weather decides to do that day. Wind is not a factor here so much as a permanent playing partner.

The club is part of the Herdla area, which holds genuine ecological significance as a protected nature reserve and bird sanctuary. Greylag geese, waders, and migratory seabirds share the landscape with golfers, giving rounds here a quality of place you simply cannot manufacture. The flatness of the island means the course is visually wide open, yet the coastal geography and shifting breezes create constant strategic demands.
