Few English seaside towns carry quite the cultural weight of Blackpool — the illuminations, the tower, the Pleasure Beach — and North Shore sits quietly apart from all of that, occupying the more residential northern end of town where the atmosphere shifts from fairground to suburban calm. The club has genuine history here, having been established in the early 1900s and shaped over the decades into a traditional links-influenced parkland layout that reflects Lancashire's long relationship with the game.
The course runs over relatively flat ground typical of the Fylde Coast, with the sea air a constant presence even when the Irish Sea itself isn't fully in view. Wind is never a footnote at North Shore — it's a scoring factor in its own right, and members will tell you the card plays very differently depending on which direction it's blowing.
As a members' club rooted in a working town, North Shore carries that honest, unpretentious character Lancashire golf tends to do well — serious about the game without taking itself too seriously.
