Golf Club Monticello is one of northern Italy's most respected private clubs, operating 2 championship 18-hole layouts — the Red Course and the Blue Course — on the rolling Brianza countryside just south of Lake Como. The club was founded in the 1970s and the courses were designed by John Harris, the British architect responsible for several distinguished layouts across continental Europe. The Red Course in particular has earned a strong reputation on the Italian and European golf circuit, having hosted European Tour events including the Italian Open on multiple occasions, which brought world-class fields to this corner of Lombardy.
The setting is classically Brianza: gentle hills folding through mature woodland, with the occasional glimpse toward the Alps on a clear day. The terrain gives the designers natural separation between holes and a quiet, enclosed feel that belies the club's competitive pedigree. Both courses reward accuracy and course management over raw power.
Monticello carries the character of a serious members' club — understated, well-maintained, and proud of its history. For visiting golfers, it represents a rare opportunity to play a venue that has genuinely tested European Tour professionals, set against one of Italy's most quietly beautiful landscapes.
