Few regions in the American Midwest have staked a stronger claim to serious golf travel than northern Michigan, and Gaylord sits at the center of that reputation. The area around this small city in Otsego County has long been marketed as the "Golf Mecca of the Midwest," with a concentration of quality courses that genuinely earns the nickname. The landscape is the reason — glacially sculpted terrain of rolling hills, hardwood forests, and clear lakes that translates naturally into compelling golf ground.
The Tribute takes its name and concept from the design tradition of paying homage to classic American golf architecture, drawing inspiration from some of the game's most celebrated holes and courses. It's a nod to golf history built into the land of a region that has always attracted architects willing to let natural contours do the heavy lifting.
Gaylord's golf season runs late spring through fall, with the dense surrounding forests delivering vivid color in September and October — making an autumn round here something considerably more than just a round of golf.
