One of Dallas's oldest and most beloved public layouts, Stevens Park has been a fixture of the city's west Oak Cliff neighborhood since 1921, making it one of the oldest municipal courses in Texas. The Works Progress Administration contributed improvements during the 1930s, lending the course a character shaped by generations of everyday golfers rather than private membership. It sits on rolling terrain above the Trinity River corridor, which is unusual for a Dallas muny — the land actually moves, and elevation changes give the short layout a trickier feel than its yardage suggests.
The course plays to a par 70, which sets the tone: this is a thinker's track where positioning and short-game precision matter more than distance. Fairways weave through mature hardwoods that have been here long enough to become genuine strategic features, not decorations. The greens are modest in size but have enough character to reward players who study them.
Stevens Park draws a loyal mix of beginners, regulars, and seasoned players who appreciate that some of Dallas's best golf infrastructure was built for everyone, not just for those who could afford a private club.
