Sequim occupies one of the more improbable climatic pockets in the Pacific Northwest — a rain shadow carved out by the Olympic Mountains that gives this small city on the northeastern edge of the Olympic Peninsula roughly 16 inches of annual rainfall, less than Los Angeles. For golfers, that means surprisingly playable conditions in a region otherwise defined by grey skies and soggy fairways. Sunland Golf and Country Club sits within this anomaly, offering year-round access that most western Washington courses can't reliably promise.
The course plays as a par 72 across a layout that reflects the agricultural flatlands and gentle terrain characteristic of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley. Views of the Olympics to the south and the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north frame the round in a way no scorecard can convey — the scenery does real work here.
As a country club in a small but growing retirement and outdoor recreation community, Sunland carries a member-focused character. The pace tends to be unhurried, the atmosphere neighborly, and the experience more about enjoying the setting than conquering a championship test.
