Few public courses in Kentucky have earned the kind of regional respect that Persimmon Ridge has built since opening in 1989. Designed by Brian Ault, the layout occupies rolling terrain in the Oldham County borderlands northeast of Louisville, where the land tumbles through hardwood forests and open meadows — the sort of countryside that rewards a course built to follow the ground rather than fight it. Ault gave the routing a classical sensibility: wide, generous fairways that still demand strategic placement, greens with enough movement to reward the patient reader, and transitions between holes that keep the landscape feeling continuous rather than carved up.
The Louisville area supports a mature golf market, with a mix of private clubs and accessible public tracks, and Persimmon Ridge has long sat near the top of the public-access conversation in this part of the state. It plays as a full-length test without feeling punishing, the kind of place where a serious golfer can work through a real round.
Oldham County itself is horse-farm and bourbon country — that particular Kentucky blend of open sky, dark soil, and unhurried pace that tends to make a round of golf feel like more than just a round of golf.
