Valley

Verwood sits in the eastern reaches of Dorset, where the county gradually sheds its chalk downland and gives way to the sandy heathland of the Avon Valley. It's a landscape shaped by heather, silver birch, and Scots pine — terrain that, at its best, produces golf with a genuine links-adjacent feel underfoot, firm and fast, the ball bouncing unpredictably off tight, sandy lies. Verwood Golf Club's Valley course is the club's full 18-hole layout, a par 72 routed across this characteristically heathy ground. Heathland golf rewards strategic thinking over raw power — the rough here isn't rough so much as it is gorse, heather, and trouble, which sharpens the mind considerably off the tee.
