Pyeongchang-gun sits high in the Taebaek Mountains of Gangwon Province, and Taegisan CC takes its name directly from Mount Taegi, the rugged peak that defines this stretch of highland terrain. At elevations pushing 700–900 meters above sea level, the course plays through genuine mountain wilderness — forested ridgelines, sharp elevation changes, and the kind of thin air that adds unexpected distance to well-struck shots. Gangwon-do is Korea's alpine heartland, and golf here feels genuinely removed from the lowland courses that ring Seoul.

The region earned global recognition when Pyeongchang hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics, and the infrastructure that came with that event made this corner of Korea far more accessible. The surrounding landscape is spectacular in every season — cherry blossoms in spring, vivid green fairways through summer, and some of the most dramatic autumn foliage in the country come October, when the mountain maples turn.

Mountain courses in Korea tend to reward accurate iron play over raw power, and Taegisan's terrain almost certainly demands patience off the tee. Expect tight corridors through pine and deciduous forest, greens that borrow from tilted ground, and conditions that can shift quickly at altitude — carry a layer regardless of what the morning forecast says.
