Fancourt Golf Estate

Few destinations in South African golf carry the weight that Fancourt does. The estate outside George is home to 3 layouts — the Links, Montagu, and Outeniqua — but it's the Links that put Fancourt on the world map. Designed by Gary Player and opened in 2000, it was the stage for the Presidents Cup in 2003, where the United States and International teams finished in a historic tie, the first draw in the event's history. That moment alone secured Fancourt's place in the modern game's consciousness.

The Links is a links-style course carved from flat Outeniqua farmland, an unusual proposition in a region better known for mountains than dunes, but Player's design leans into the artifice with conviction — firm, fast, windswept, and relentlessly strategic. Montagu and Outeniqua offer a more parkland feel, framed by the dramatic Outeniqua mountain range that defines the Garden Route's interior landscape.

George sits in a stretch of the Western Cape where the mountains meet the Indian Ocean coast, and the climate — mild, moist, and green — makes for conditions that keep turf lush year-round. Fancourt is unambiguously resort golf at the top end of the South African market.
