Few places in Florida golf feel quite as removed from the state's resort-corridor bustle as Sumter County, where Wildwood sits at the northern edge of the Villages sprawl before giving way to genuine Central Florida countryside. The terrain here is flat and open, shaped more by scrub oak, slash pine, and the occasional wetland than by manufactured drama — which means any course in this pocket of the state earns its character through routing and conditioning rather than borrowed scenery.
Continental Country Club carries the name and ethos of a private or semi-private members' club, the kind of layout built for regulars who play it week in and week out and come to know every grain and break. That familiarity is its own reward — a par-72 track rewards course knowledge and patience over raw power, and a flat Central Florida site tends to put a premium on ball-striking consistency and short-game precision.
Wildwood itself is a small, unpretentious town, and the golf here reflects that straightforward sensibility — no-frills, unhurried, and genuinely local in a corner of Florida that the golf tourist largely passes through on the way somewhere else.
