Kohler, Wisconsin has become one of American golf's most improbable destination addresses — a small village in the lakeshore industrial heartland that happens to house one of the most celebrated golf resorts on the planet. The American Club, Kohler's luxury anchor, drew Pete Dye into this landscape in the 1980s and early '90s, and what followed was a series of courses that put Wisconsin firmly on the serious golfer's map. Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run are the headliners, but Kohler's depth of offerings means the property has room for complementary layouts that serve different corners of the guest experience.
The Alternate Course, as its name suggests, reads as a companion piece within that larger resort ecosystem — a par-72 layout that gives visiting golfers another day of play without requiring a trip off the grounds.
Kohler itself sits about an hour north of Milwaukee and not far from Lake Michigan, where the climate runs cool and breezy. Expect genuine Midwestern seasons, real turf conditions, and a property that takes golf seriously at every tier.
