Lake City sits in the heart of Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula, a region defined by glacier-carved lakes, rolling hardwood forests, and the kind of unhurried pace that draws people up from the cities every summer. Missaukee County takes its name from an Ojibwe chief, and the landscape here — sandy soils, pine stands, birch groves — is the same terrain that gave birth to some of Michigan's most celebrated inland courses a few hours to the east and west.
Missaukee GC is the local course in the truest sense: the place where the community plays, where junior golfers learn the game, and where a tee time on a weekday morning means you might have the whole property to yourself. A par 71 layout suggests at least one less par 5 than a standard card, which often means a design that rewards precision and shot-making over raw power.
Northern Michigan's golf season is compressed but vivid — peak conditions run late May through October, with the fall foliage turning the rounds into something genuinely worth traveling for.
