Few public courses in the Dayton suburban corridor have built a more loyal local following than Heatherwoode. Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1992, the layout carved through the residential development of Springboro with enough genuine character to earn a reputation well beyond the surrounding Warren County subdivisions. Hills leaned on the natural contours of the land, routing holes through stands of mature trees and around water features that demand real decision-making rather than straight-ahead power.
The course plays as a genuine test without crossing into punishment — a distinction Hills courses tend to get right. The par-71 layout rewards players who manage the game off the tee, and several holes along the water corridors have a way of staying in your memory after the round. It has long been a go-to for serious recreational players in the Dayton-Cincinnati corridor looking for something more engaging than a standard daily-fee track.
Springboro sits in southwestern Ohio's gently rolling farm country, where the landscape is modest but the golf infrastructure is strong — this is a region that takes the game seriously.
