Few courses in the Phoenix metro area have aged as gracefully as Stonecreek. Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1989, the layout occupies a stretch of the Paradise Valley corridor where natural desert washes and mature vegetation give it a more established, rooted feel than many of its contemporaries. Hills threaded the routing through the terrain with enough elevation change to produce genuine drama — particularly on the back nine, where canyon edges and rock outcroppings demand committed shotmaking rather than just careful arithmetic.
The par-71 configuration is part of what makes Stonecreek feel distinctive in a market saturated with par-72 resort layouts. That missing par 5 sharpens the scoring calculus and rewards ball-strikers who can attack par 4s of genuine length. The course plays firm and fast in Phoenix's arid climate, which amplifies ground game decisions that softer venues simply don't require.
Stonecreek has long operated as a semi-private club, giving it a quieter, more members-oriented atmosphere than the high-volume resort courses that define much of Scottsdale's golf identity just a few miles east.
