Few golf developments in the Carolina Upstate have drawn as much attention as The Cliffs, a collection of private mountain and lakeside communities clustered around the Blue Ridge foothills near the South Carolina-North Carolina border. The Cliffs at Keowee Falls is part of that network, set in the rugged, forested terrain surrounding Lake Keowee — a deep, clear reservoir carved into the Blue Ridge escarpment where Oconee County's ridgelines meet the water. This is mountain-meets-piedmont golf, where elevation changes are real and the tree canopy is dense with hardwoods and pines.
As a private club within The Cliffs Communities, the course serves a membership drawn to one of the Southeast's more ambitious luxury residential golf developments. The setting alone — waterfalls, granite outcroppings, and lake views are all part of the Keowee Falls landscape — gives the property a dramatic natural backdrop that few courses in South Carolina can match.
Salem sits in the far northwest corner of the state, about an hour from Greenville, with the Great Smoky Mountains foothills lending the region a distinctly Appalachian character that separates it entirely from the Low Country golf that defines South Carolina in most people's minds.
